Aprilia is an Italian brand founded in the 1960s, quickly gaining fame for producing motorcycles and scooters. In 1992, Aprilia started producing 50cc 2-stroke scooters for the Dutch market, further increasing its popularity.
In the 1990s, Aprilia grew rapidly and in 2000 acquired two other iconic Italian motorcycle brands, Moto Guzzi and Laverda. After some financial troubles, Aprilia was eventually acquired by Piaggio, the Italian giant in the scooter and motorcycle industry. Since 2004, Aprilia has been part of the Piaggio Group.
