What is a bearing made of?
A bearing consists of two rings with a rolling race. While one ring is attached to the stationary part, the other ring is attached to the moving part. Balls allow the rings to move with minimal friction. The casing keeps the rolling parts separated and provides guidance.
What does a bearing do?
A bearing is used to attach the shaft of a wheel to a vehicle or to attach the wheel to the shaft. This allows the wheel to rotate with minimal friction, despite the significant weight pressing on the shaft. A ball bearing is a rolling bearing that reduces the friction of a rotational movement. A ball bearing typically consists of an inner ring and an outer ring with one or two rows of spherical, cylindrical, or barrel-shaped balls between them. The balls rotate, preventing much of the friction.
Is there any other relevant information?
Behind the product name, you will often see C1, C2, C3, and C4. This indicates how much play the bearing has. A C1 bearing has almost no play, a C2 bearing has a little play, a C3 bearing has quite a bit of play and can be used on a scooter up to about 16,000 rpm. A C4 bearing is used for tuned cylinders and racing. With bearings, the higher the rpm, the more heat is generated, causing the metal to expand. As the metal expands, the play is reduced.
