What is an air filter?
An air filter filters the air that goes to the carburetor. This air is needed for the combustion of the gasoline because without oxygen, nothing can be burned. The air needs to be filtered because sand, insects, or other debris should not enter the cylinder. This could lead to damage to the cylinder walls, preventing your scooter from running. The air filter is the entire component, while the actual filter is often referred to as the air filter sponge.
When should I replace the air filter sponge?
The air filter on most scooters is quite easy to remove and clean. However, there comes a time when the air filter sponge wears out and needs to be replaced. If the air filter sponge is very dirty (with hard chunks of dirt) or is fraying, it is a good idea to buy a new one to prevent engine overheating. The most common air filter sponges are not expensive. We also have racing air filters and sponges for scooters available!
