Gearing at M2trading.com
M2trading.com also offers gearings in our assortment. The gearing, also known as the final drive, is crucial for your scooter, and it certainly plays an important role! This component helps the scooter to move and affects both the acceleration and the top speed.
What is gearing?
This term is used in the ''scooter world'' for gear transmission. A gear is one of the oldest methods of transferring motion, speed, or direction. A gear transmission always consists of at least two gears and is only suitable for short-distance transmissions. This type of transmission can be found in many devices; mills, clocks, bicycles, cars, Lego, and scooters! Since after World War II, gears have become less popular and have been replaced in many areas by electrotechnology and electronics.
What is a gear and how does it work?
The gearing is actually the final drive of your scooter through a gear or gears, and it’s vital. The scooter's gearing consists of a primary and secondary section. The primary gearing is often angled by default. This means that the gears are set at an angle. The secondary gearing, however, is typically straight.
A straight gearing produces less resistance. Because the straight gears generate less friction, they heat up less, which reduces wear. It may even give your scooter a slight speed increase, but that’s negligible. A different gear ratio can be achieved by installing a gear with more or fewer teeth (e.g., Malossi).
Do I need to keep anything in mind?
When the gearing is replaced, your scooter will accelerate slowly and won’t reach its top speed during the first hundred kilometers. This is because the gears need to ''wear in''. Once this happens, you will notice better performance.
