What is a cylinder?

The cylinder is the heart of your scooter or moped. It consists of various parts that work together to mix air and fuel, ignite it, and convert this into energy that drives the engine.

How does a cylinder work?

The compressed mixture of oxygen and fuel is ignited by a spark from the spark plug. This ignition causes an explosion that fills the cylinder head with pressure and heat, pushing the piston downward. As the piston moves downward, it sucks in a new mixture through the intake. The pressure in the cylinder decreases, while the pressure below the piston increases, and the intake valve closes.

The piston pushes the exhaust gases out once it reaches the exhaust port. As the new mixture is drawn into the cylinder, the pressure builds up again. The oil in the mixture ensures that the components remain well-lubricated.

The crankshaft provides the motion for the piston and the continuous process of intake, compression, ignition, and exhaust. This is the process that powers the engine and ensures the performance of your scooter.

Things to consider when replacing the cylinder

When replacing the cylinder and cylinder head, it's important to check the spark plug as well. The spark plug should be brown; if it is black, it is receiving too much fuel, and if it is white, it is receiving too little. Also, replace the base gasket between the engine block and the cylinder, as well as the head gasket between the cylinder and cylinder head to prevent leaks.

Keep in mind that after replacing the cylinder and cylinder head, the scooter needs to be broken in. It's important not to ride at top speed constantly during the first 500 km and avoid carrying passengers to prevent excessive wear.
