What is a flywheel and how does it work?

The flywheel is the rotating part of the scooter's ignition system. The flywheel has magnets on the inside. As the flywheel rotates, it generates energy that is captured by the coils. This energy powers the capacitor in the CDI. Due to the rotating part, a metal strip passes by the pick-up, creating a certain voltage. When this voltage reaches a specific level, the capacitor discharges over the primary coil. This causes a rapid magnetic field change in the coil, leading to induction in the secondary coil, which results in a short but powerful spark.

When your flywheel is worn out, the magnetic material detaches. Replacing a flywheel is simple and can be done yourself. So, if you need a new flywheel, look no further and purchase a new flywheel and the best parts for your scooter or moped from us. When the flywheel is removed, it is also advisable to check the stator to ensure it's still in good condition.

How do I remove a flywheel?

With a flywheel puller! A flywheel puller is hollow with threads, and it has a bolt inside. You screw the inner bolt into the flywheel itself, and then screw the outer bolt into the inner bolt. Once that’s done, the outer bolt is turned against the crankshaft. The flywheel puller then comes out and takes the flywheel with it. There are other conventional methods, but we advise against using them! It’s best to use the proper tools to avoid causing any damage.
